Toothbrush on Taanit Esther
May one brush his teeth on Taa‘nit Esther?
On a private fast day (e.g. a chatan/kallah fasting on the wedding day, or one who is fasting on the yahrzeit of a parent) it is permitted to brush one’s teeth.
On the other hand, on a public fast day, including Ta’anit Esther, it is not allowed. However, if not brushing one’s teeth will cause feelings of intense emotional or physical discomfort and stress, it is permitted for one to brush his teeth and it would not be considered as if he broke his fast.
