Cooking a single egg

When boiling eggs, how can one address the issue of possible blood spots?
If it is determined after cooking that an egg has a blood spot in it, the egg and the pot it was cooked in both become prohibited. Therefore, it has become customary to cook at least three eggs together, so that even if one is found to have a blood spot, the other two constitute the majority and thus, the pot will not become prohibited.
Today, however, if using non-fertilized eggs, it is permitted to cook even just one egg in a pot. Nevertheless, some do still maintain the custom of always cooking at least three eggs together.
