What should one do with clothing that is no longer needed?

The rabbinical prohibition of ba’al tashchit extends to clothing as well. One should not destroy or dispose of clothes that are still wearable, and instead should donate the clothes to someone who can use them.

However, if it will require unusual and significant effort to find someone who can make use of the clothing (e.g. the garment is very specific/irregular), then it is permissible to dispose of it instead of donating it.
